Valentin Serov: Anniversary of his death

Yesterday was the anniversary of famous Russian portraitist Valentin Serov (1865-1911).

His portraits became known for exhibiting juxtaposition of light and shadow, quickly becoming masterpieces (DavidBerryArt.com details Serov's artistic skill with lighting). ArtRoots notes his "psychological perceptiveness, his ability to see and show the spirit of the person sitting in front of him." Olga's Gallery features several of his paintings.
